Site visit to Balderskolan, Skelleftea

On the 11th November 2015, several RESSEEPE partners had the opportunity to visit the Balderskolan, Skelleftea demo site. The partners present were Va-Q-Tec, Onexit, TU Wien and Exergy Ltd and were welcomed by the demo site partner, City Of Skelleftea. The site visit was used to determine and discuss the potential refurbishment and retrofitting solutions at the Balderskolan site and to have an open discussion about the feasibility of technologies which may be implemented.

The first order of business, once the demo site visit commenced, was to discuss the current status at the Balderskolan site and to decide which areas would benefit most from the retrofitting technologies. For this particular meeting, Exergy had produced CAD drawings in the form of plans and elevations to make the selection process easier and would allow the demo site owners to clearly illustrate and present the areas they are considering for works.

Once the morning portion of the meeting was complete, the City Of Skelleftea provided a guided tour through Balderskolan, which enabled the different partners to get a more in-depth and first-hand look at the site. This enabled the technology providers to get a better understanding of the building characteristics and therefore enabled them to make accurate judgements about the implementation of their technology.

The day was concluded with all partners engaging in a discussion about the current status of the demo site and the potential solutions. Partners Va-Q-Tec and Onexit agreed their technologies will provide a feasible solution for the demo site. Other technologies the partners found feasible were LED lighting and EC windows for the older buildings at Balderskolan.

Subsequently, the partners discussed the next steps of the process and agreed the technology providers will use the next few months to provide detailed proposals for the demo site which would clearly portray the feasibility of the technology with additional data on energy efficiency and payback periods.

1st RESSEEPE Workshop

On the  28th of October 2014, the first RESSEEPE workshop was organized in Barcelona, Spain as part of the World Sustainable Building Conference 2014 (http://www.wsb14barcelona.org).

The three-day-conference aimed to encourage the uptake of adequate answers to the challenges, social and environmental, which the building sector faces.

The main goal of the workshop was to present the RESSEEPE technologies and demo sites to external stakeholders coming from different professional backgrounds.  The workshop started with an overview of the RESSEEPE project, presented by the Scientific Coordinator, Fernando Centeno (Exergy).

Following the presentation of introductory information, Roman Eduardo (Tecnalia) represented the RESSEEPE technologies, including solar thermal collectors, EC/PV windows, super-insulating mortar, vacuum insulation panels, phase changing materials and energy storage strategies etc. A few researchers who were attending the workshop showed their particular interest in solar thermal collectors and EC/PV window technologies.

After answering the questions raised by the audience, Patrica Perez (OHL) discussed the potential refurbishment solutions that could be implemented in RESSEEPE demo sites. Nikos Sakkas (Apintech) also had an opportunity to discuss about the monitoring strategies and technologies that have been being developed as part of RESSEEPE. The final speaker, Valeria Ferrando (IES) closed the workshop by talking about dynamic simulation tools and methodologies addressed in RESSEEPE.

The RESSEEPE Project´s Annual Meeting conclusions

The RESSEEPE Project´s Annual Meeting was held on the 8th, 9th and 10th of July in Barcelona, Spain.

The meeting was organised by CST. The first day was focused on Demo Sites and the Consortium Members visited the Spanish hospitals which are participating as demo sites, Terrassa Hospital and Parc Tauli Hospital Centre.

Each partner demonstrator presented their proposals for intervention on each of their buildings based on a number of criteria (budget, technology, building type, climate) and after that, exchanged their views about plans to address the works.

During the second day, the PTA (Project Technical Assistant), Carlos Bello, joined the meeting to follow up with the RESSEEPE Project so far. A review of each of the Work Packages was done, checking the status of each of the tasks (delays, changes, deliverables).

Following the presentations by Work Package leaders, WP grouped meetings were held to face the next steps regarding the 18 month meeting. Also, demonstrators met different groups (thermal isolation strategiessolar, lighting and HVAC strategies, Design and Building Technologies) for advice, and to ask for information and new requirements.

The event concluded with a discussion about the importance of having a shortlist of technologies, simulations of different scenarios, decision making processes and work plans for the implementation and validation of work by end of July 2014.
